Wedding Photography at Wethele Manor 7th October 2016

Wedding_Photography_Wethele_Manor-82-of-88

On the 7th October 2016, I provided the wedding photography for the wedding of Richard and Samantha at Wethele Manor near Leamington in Warwickshire. This was my first visit to Wethele I was very impressed with the venue and its helpful staff.  The venue is a farmhouse style set up with a marquee and courtyard for outdoor weddings.  As you would expect from an October wedding the weather is always an issue especially with outside weddings but thankfully apart from being a little bit cold, the weather held out.

It was great day Richard & Sam had gone for our all-day package, Rebecca started at 10.00 am for the bridal photographs and I started later to capture the rest of the preparations working through until late in the evening.   It was a fun day.

Warwickshire Wedding Photographer

Philip_Lena_0151

Over the summer I have provided wedding photography for several weddings all have been brilliant, I am thankful to the happy couples for employing me to cover their wedding days.  My aim with this blog is to update it a couple of times a week with what we've been up and show off work. However in busier times it is hard to make the time to write a blog and now I am somewhat behind.

In August I covered the wedding for Philip & Lena, which was held at the Pagneant House in Warwick followed by a reception within the ballroom of the old Court House.

I booked for a few hours to cover the ceremony and the formal portraits and the general scene within two hours. Philip and Lena wanted a relaxed vintage feel to the photography whilst also capturing the pictures of the family groups that everyone loves.

Drone Aerial Photography and Video Warwickshire

Aerial_Photos_02

Not a lot of people know that Squire and Squire Photography also has an aerial photography business as well, this is in part due to my obsession with all thing photography, I am fascinated with any application to do with image capture. Also in the beginning it made sense to separate the two businesses because flying UAVS (unmanned aerial vehicles) or drones as they are more popularly was a very specialist activity.   Back in 2010 Dataq Technologies Ltd was one of the few companies to gain a commercial license to fly drones granted by the civil aviation authority. In fact my drone pilots licence was the seventh issued, so my licence number was 007 but is now 0007 because of the expansion of the industry and the trained pilots within it.  However all this market expansion does not mean that we have let our standards slip we are still a professional UAS operator with high quality equipment and procedures.

Aerial photography and surveys has always been our staple we've carried out jobs all over the country including numerous jobs in the centre of London. Recently though we have purchased a new drone that we plan to use for aerial video up to the quality of 4K. We plan to get the full potential out of our new purchase and therefore have some exciting drone video shoots lined up for weddings and events these will be blogged out in due course.

In the meantime please see the images below for some of our best work in aerial photography in Warwickshire and the rest of the UK.

Dog Photography Warwickshire

2A4A4354

Being a dog owner myself I know the different looks a dog gives as part of their personality. Recently we attended the DOGLOTT show in Leamington Spa old town as a pet photography stand, the purpose of the show was to showcase local dog charities and organisations. The LOTT part of the title of the show refers to the organisers Leamington Old Town Team. A team of volunteers tasked with bringing new business to Leamingtons Old Town.

I wanted to create dog portraits that were more than simply a picture of a dog on a background, so I decide to focus my attention on capturing their expression around their eyes.

Over the course of the day I photographed a number of dogs and these are a few of my favourite images.

Pet Portraits Warwickshire

Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

On 16th November I was honoured to create an owner and pet portrait of Molly and her owner Lizzie in my studio. The sitting was a present paid for by her sister where I was on instructions to create black and white images, which is great because black and white portraits are my favourite style.

I seem to have a knack for making animals feel at home in my company and Molly was no different, in fact Lizzie and her sister were surprised how much Molly relaxed in the strange surroundings of my studio.

Ottery St Mary Tar Barrels

There is nothing I like more than watching my fellow country men and women (in the first picture it is a lady carrying a burning barrel) take part in dangerous historic pastimes. Over the years I have visited some of the best known events in the calendar such as the Cheese Rolling at Coopers Hill in Brockworth, Gloucester, Skin Kicking at the Cotswold Olimpicks in Chipping Campden and the World Nettle Eating Championships in Marshwood, Dorset.

The difference with the Tar Barrel rolling at Ottery St Mary is that spectating is nearly as dangerous as taking part. Thursday was the first time I have been,  there are literally thousands of people packed into the streets of the town with teams of locals relaying burning barrels around the streets until there is nothing left to hold on to.

It was great fun and I seriously think Warwick should come up with its own crazy event. There must be some forgotten game or event from the Towns 1100 year history that could be resurrected.

Large Group Photography Warwickshire

In August I was approached by the management team of Rugby Town Football Club to create a never attempted before photograph of all six hundred club members. For me this was a daunting task and something I had never done before, in fact I think up until the day of the photograph on 5th September the most people in a single photograph was about one hundred and fifty.

Although the task at hand was daunting thankfully the football club had given me enough notice to come up with a plan. My first thought was what resolution would  I require to photograph that many people in a single photograph.  I thought through many options before deciding that I would need to double my standard camera resolution, so I decided to get my hands on a fifty plus mega pixel camera.

The next aspect was working out the best position for the photograph be to taken, the team at the club had given a time of 13.00 for the photograph to be taken, with this in mind I was able to establish where the sun would be at that time of day and then recommend where the group should be placed to avoid the sun shining in the groups eyes (as it turned out it wasn't sunny on the day but it is always better to be prepared in my opinion).

I also had to establish my chosen lens field of view, to establish this I visited the football ground before the event and was able to give the club guidance on where I would like to stand and where the limits of the group would be in order to see all the banners and the members plus the club house in the background. The final consideration was a 3 metre high scaffold tower provided by the club for me to stand on. Now I am not keen on heights and with all the prep work done and the clubs coaches helping out with arranging the group into the position, my only worry became falling off the tower.

In the end though we had a very successful photo opportunity with everything going to plan and a happy customer.

November Update

Its been a very busy few months and its hard to believe we are nearly at Christmas. As expected for the time of year I have been very busy with family portrait photographs, but I have also done a wedding some interesting aerial photography projects, product photography and some cool business portraits

I do wish I was competent of keeping up with this blog and adding new pieces of work as they happen but it never works out that way and I always forget.

I will add some posts soon though, in the meantime I wanted to share a link to Sohei Nishino a Japanese photographer. Who creates aerial view dioramas of cities by piecing together thousands of photographs he has taken of the city on the ground.

http://www.soheinishino.com/en/works/dioramamap/london/index.html

He uses a film camera to photograph the cities as he walks the streets for roughly a month, before developing the negatives and finally arranging the prints to make up the scene.

Pretty cool stuff.

A visit to Warwick Gaol & Warwick County Council's Emergency Bunker

Back in September 2013 I had the pleasure of a whilstle-stop tour of Warwickshire County Council's Shire Hall and the old Crown Courts on North Gate Street in Warwick, Warwickshire. My friends and I have long been interested in the stories of the nuclear bunker that is supposed to be located underneath Shire Hall and the old gaol on Northgate Street, but because both are located behind closed doors a visit never seemed likely.

b2ap3_thumbnail_The-Bunker.jpg

That was until I met up with Jack Linstead of Warwick Rocks who also happens to work at Warwickshire County Council. I brought the subject up of the bunker and gaol in conversation and he offered to show me around, naturally I had to ask if I could bring a few friends and gladly he obliged.

On the day our first port of call was the "much fabled nuclear bunker" which was somewhat of a disappointment because it looked like any old dull office space (see picture above), but it did have an impressive double blast door (which I didn't take a photo of) and an emergency exit tunnel and hatch. Jack said that the bunker was still in use for county emergencies such as the 2007 floods.

After we left the bunker we climbed the several flights of stairs back up to the foyer of the building, next we had a quick look at the council chamber which was interesting to see a I had never been in there before. Its quite a dark room because of its location in the centre of the building, also the main natural light source at large stained glass window was blocked off in recent renovations that brought the post office and other council services into the foyer next door.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Entrance-from-Shire-Hall.jpg

Next we where shown through the corridor which links Shire Hall with the old Warwick Crown Court on Northgate Street.  The entrance hall and waiting room for the court rooms is spectacularly ornate, its such a shame that this building is no longer in public use and also a shame that the modern replacement in Leamington Spa is so bland in comparison.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Crown-Court-Foyer.jpg

The opulent interior style continued into the court rooms, the court rooms are very ornate I particularly liked the ceiling decoration and the lantern on the top.  I would have liked to explore the room a bit more but Jack was on his lunch hour so we had to rush on into depths of the prison cells beneath.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Court-Room.jpg

b2ap3_thumbnail_Court-Room-Ceiling.jpg

The cells and gaol were the main event of our visit as far as I was concerned I've heard rumors of the gaol located here and seen pictures but we were actually going to go inside it so it was quite exciting. First we went down the steps and along the corridor to the office where I guess the keys for the cells would have been kept.  At this point it was interesting to imagine all the prisoners over the centuries would have walked down this corridor to learn their fate in the court rooms above.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Passageway-from-Courts-to-the-Cells.jpg

b2ap3_thumbnail_Guard-Post.jpg

At this point we had a look around the cells, I guess these cells are as old as the courts above with very basic modern upgrades such as the stainless steel and wooden shelf seen in one of the cells I looked in.  In terms of comfort there were no windows, no toilet, not much space and only a few holes in the wall for ventilation, but in comparison to what prisoners of the 1700's had to deal with this was paradise.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Inside-a-Modern-Cell.jpg

After we had a brief look around the cells, Jack opened up a very old looking door from which stone stairs lead downwards into the gaol below which came out of use in 1797. The room itself is octagonal just like the court rooms above.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Door-to-the-Gaol.jpg

In the middle of the room is a cess pit, surrounding this are eight posts that prisoners would have been tied to by there feet. The room is was very damp, with a grate in the centre of the roof for light, other than the cess pool and posts the room is bare,  prisoners would have had to lye or sit on the damp stone floor.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Stars-down-to-the-Goal-.jpgb2ap3_thumbnail_Gaol-Roof.jpg

On one side of the room is a brass plaque that was installed in 1932 with a history of the room written on it by the time I had read it, it was time to go and before we new it we were outside on Northgate Street.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Commemorative-Plague-from-1929.jpgb2ap3_thumbnail_Cess-Pit-in-the-Gaol.jpg

It was a very quick tour lasting only half an hour but we saw some hidden history that lies very close to public areas but remains hidden from view. I do not know what the plans are for the old Crown Court but I hope its opened to the public as it really is a fantastic building with a fantastic history.

Product Photography Warwick, Warwickshire

I am a general photographer, offering all aspects of photography either in my studio, on location or in the air for aerial photography. I have for a number of years been providing product photography for local businesses in Warwickshire.  Through this I have become an experienced Jewellery photographer where I have photographed over a thousand pieces of jewellery. I also provide clothing photography with or without models which is another area I am very experienced within.

Then recently I was asked to photograph newly designed a piece of machinery for the local company called Vapourblast, the machine is quite large so there was absolutely no chance of carrying it up the stairs to my studio. Instead I visited the factory to do the photographs, in essence the set up for doing the photography on site was no different from doing the shoot in the studio.

All of our equipment is portable, including the background rolls the only real difference was setting the correct power to my studio lights and positioning them.  After this was done we where away and then with a little bit of post processing.

Holiday Time

This blog post isn't about official work, but its some snaps taken on a recent camping trip to the Cotswold's for the annual cheese rolling event. We camp out locally a few days before, its a very beautiful area mostly wooded with loads of great walks and unspoilt pubs to visit.  We then walk to the cheese rolling event on the bank holiday Monday.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_8775.jpg

I thought I'd share these images because it was the first time in years that it was warm and sunny!!! I have haven't included any of me in my shorts for fear of blinding people with my white legs, instead there are some casual portraits of some friends of mine and some insects.

Website Issues

Hello, This is the first post on my new blog and new website. Over last weekend 19th May 2013 my website was hacked, I believe this was an issue with my hosting provider because there were service interuptions leading up to last weekend which was very unusual. It was an old site, I made it in 2009 and it has been reworked several times since then, so it was well overdue for replacement.

This is my fresh design which uses the very latest version of Joomla CMS version 3. I can't praise this version highly enough in comparison to Joomla 1.5 which my old site ran on. It is a huge leap forward in terms of usability, speed and integration of modules and components that in the past had to be found and installed by the user. Also the template I am using from Joomla Bamboo is brilliant very easy to use and customise, the fonts for instance are Google Fonts, I never knew such cool fonts existed.

The site isn't finished yet and is very much work in progress, my hope though is to have it finished completely by this Friday 24th May 2013. And hopefully I'll be able to reinstate my old blog posts as well.
